Three things: what is inside, what is not inside, and how it is built. Inside: four or five layers of GOTS certified organic wool. Not inside: synthetic fill, flame retardants, synthetic dyes or bleach. And the build: a zipped inner protector that lets you add or remove wool layers after you buy, so the firmness can change with you.
New organic wool has a faint, natural lanolin scent, like clean natural fibre, and it fades within a few days of airing. Because the wool is untreated, there is no chemical smell. If you are sensitive to scent, air the pillow in a ventilated room for 24 to 48 hours before first use.
The fill is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Class I, the strictest class of that standard and the one set for articles used by babies. As with any pillow, we recommend it for children aged two and above. In pregnancy, it has no synthetic fill, dyes, bleach or flame retardants; if you have a specific medical concern, check with your doctor.

You have 14 days from delivery to return a pillow. Because the loft is adjustable through the inner zip, it is worth trying a layer more or less before deciding it is the wrong pillow.
Each pillow has a zipped cotton inner protector holding the wool layers. Open it and take a layer out to soften the pillow, or put it back to firm it up, then re-zip and replace the outer cover. It takes about two minutes, and nothing is glued or sewn shut.
